Causes of heart disease
Heart disease is one of the biggest reasons for medical related deaths, this disease can come on quickly or build slowly there are many facets, such as, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, diseased valves, strokes or rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease. Cardiovascular disease causes 12 million deaths in the world each year. The United States alone has more than 60 million people who have some form of cardiovascular disease. It is known that heart disease is a major cause of impotence in men in the world.
Disease of the coronary arteries is the leading cause of death in the USA and is the most common form of cardiovascular disease. There are many factors that may point you to being a candidate for cardiovascular disease.
Risk factors are used to determine a person’s chance of developing cardiovascular disease and the more risk factors you have the more of a chance you have of developing heart disease. It is important to note that no matter what risk factors you may have certain things such as weight and blood pressure can be changed.
The foremost risk factor is high blood pressure also known as hypertension and if you have high blood pressure it will increase your risk of heart disease, heart attack, and the possibility of suffering from a stroke. Blood pressure can vary with activity and with age, but ideally a healthy adult should have a systolic pressure reading between 120 and 130 and a diastolic pressure reading between 80 and 90. If yours is higher you would be well advised to talk to your doctor.
High cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for heart disease this is a fat-like substance carried in your blood which is found in all of your body's cells. The saturated fat in food is the main cause of high cholesterol this causes plaque to form on artery walls, which starts a disease process called atherosclerosis or narrowing of the arteries When this happens the heart has to work harder to pump blood through the vessels and you are at greater risk of having a heart attack and are only to two major conditions that can cause cardiovascular disease.
Other risk factors which can cause problems are gender, heredity, smoking, physical inactivity and the biggest threat of all these days obesity and the more of these that you have the greater your risk of heart related problems.
